The new Richmond Ferry Terminal for the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) makes a huge statement and impression despite its small footprint. The project comprises of a new terminal for commuter passenger ferry service, an entry gate with information signage, a passenger waiting area, gangway and ramping system. The terminal was designed by Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects as an iconic element, visually distinctive, providing passengers panoramic bay and city views, protection from wind and rain, as well as year-round comfort. The facade consists of a windbreak made with 3/8” tempered, GlasPro Bird Safe glass facing windward and copper-penny-colored metal louvers on the leeward side. Bird Safe’s ultraviolet reflective pattern is effective at deterring birds from window collisions but is highly-transparent to the human eye.
